MATCH REPORT: BATH CITY 4-0 CONCORD RANGERS

Bath City 4
Concord Rangers 0

Concord Rangers fell to a fifth straight away defeat as a Scott Wilson brace paired with a Harvey Beckett own goal and a Dan Hayfield strike sentenced the Beach Boys to a 4-0 defeat at Bath City.

Rob Small's side had been victorious in midweek, beating Hungerford Town 1-0, and they continued with the same intensity from Tuesday night in what was a bright start to the game for the visitors.

Five minutes after an early effort from Nana Kyei forced Max Harris into a save the Concord winger then set up Quentin Monville with a deep cross to the far post where the 27 year old let fly, seeing his attempt fumbled behind by Harris.

Bath responded and after 20 minutes Mitchell Beeney was forced into his noteworthy save - tipping over a deflected strike from Tom Smith.

Despite this Concord had been able to limit Bath's chances to a minimum and it looked as though the two sides would head into the break goalless. However this all changed as the Romans struck twice in the final five minutes of the opening period.

After 40 minutes a drilled delivery across the face of goal from Bristol City loanee James Morton evaded everyone. The danger wasn't everted yet as Hayfield was on hand to redeliver to Wilson who had the simple task of tapping home from close range for his 14th goal of the campaign. This was also the first goal Bath had scored in 296 minutes of football.

Four minutes later the Romans doubled their lead. An Elliott Frear cross came off Harvey Beckett's leg at the near post, and the ball deflected into the back of the net. This being the second consecutive away game in which Concord have conceded an own goal following Charlie Campbell's misfortune away at Worthing on Good Friday.

Despite a bright start to the second half, which saw Kyei curl the ball just wide from a Max Hudson corner, Bath managed to find a third goal six minutes after the restart. Wilson was played in behind and despite seeing his initial effort from a tight angle kept out, the former Dagenham & Redbridge man was able to follow up and scramble the loose ball home for his second of the afternoon.

As the game ticked into the final quarter Jerry Gill's side were able to put the game to bed by giving themselves a four goal cushion. Hayfield met a Frear cross the midfielder's looping header came back off the underside off the crossbar and in for his fourth goal in Bath colours.

As the full time whistle loomed closer Wilson tried desperately to try and complete his hattrick flashing a shot just over the top and sending another into the side netting. Ultimately the 30 year old would be denied the match ball with the game finishing 4-0 at Twerton Park.

An eighth defeat in nine games for Concord means they remain bottom and the Beach Boys are now 12 points from safety following Dulwich Hamlet's win over Taunton.

A second convincing win over Concord this season for Bath moves them into the top half of the table as their faint playoff hopes remain alive. Cheltenham Town loanee Harris was also able to help the Romans to their first clean sheet in six games.

Concord Rangers return to action on Tuesday night as they entertain Dover Athletic before another Kent side, Dartford, make the trip to the Aspect Arena on Thursday evening; and then next Saturday Small's outfit entertain Hampton & Richmond Borough in what is a packed schedule for the Beach Boys.
