Chelmsford City 2
Farnborough 5
A first Chelmsford City goal from Lyle Taylor wasn't enough to continue the Clarets' unbeaten home start to the season, with City thrashed 5-2 by Farnborough.
Former Claret, Mason Bloomfield started the scoring for the away side inside 20 minutes before Charlton loanee Ryan Huke doubled the lead from distance.
Josh Castiglione managed to halve the deficit for Chelmsford, but Farnborough managed to restore their two-goal cushion before half-time thanks to a powerful strike from Dominic Poleon.
In the second half, Huke was on target again for the visitors, before Taylor scored a consolation from the penalty spot.
Farnborough added gloss to the scoreline in injury time, with Bloomfield also netting his second goal of the evening.
Kick-Off
The first chance of the evening went the way of Farnborough.
From a left-wing cross, Chelmsford's goalkeeper Chris Haigh missed his punch, allowing the ball to run through to Renny Smith, but the former Austria youth international fired over.
Eight minutes after this, the Yellows did manage to break the deadlock.
Teddy Collis slid in Bloomfield, and he confidently slotted the ball past Haigh to score on his return to the Melbourne Stadium.
Chelmsford responded minutes later with Archie Tamplin dragging a cross back to Louie Kudiabor, whose shot forced a fine reaction save from Jack Turner who tipped over.
The Clarets failed to capitalise from the resulting corner, with Joe Grimwood glancing a header wide.
Chelmsford would be left to rue these missed chances, as after half an hour Farnborough doubled their lead.
Haigh came way off his line to try and deal with a long ball, which he missed, forcing Castiglione to have to clear.
His clearance went only as far as Huke, whose shot from 30 yards went over the stranded Haigh and into the back of the unguarded net.
Chelmsford responded instantly with a goal of their own just three minutes later.
Grimwood's long ball down the right channel was latched onto by Castiglione, and he lobbed the ball over the onrushing Turner and in.
The Clarets' joy was short-lived, however, with the visitors restoring their two-goal lead just three minutes later.
Grimwood beat Bloomfield in the air, but his header went straight to Poleon on the left-hand side, and he did well to turn away from Castiglione before rifling a shot past Haigh and into the roof of the net - this goal being the Saint Lucia international's third in the space of three days.
Half-Time: Chelmsford City 1-3 Farnborough
The second half didn't get off to the most lively of starts, prompting a triple sub from Chelmsford manager Angelo Harrop after 66 minutes.
This instantly brought about a change with Turner being called into a save, although it was a routine one to keep out substitute Junior Nkeng's tame attempt.
However, these subs proved ineffective as five minutes later Farnborough made it 4-1.
Taylor lost possession in midfield to Connor Harris, who then played a pass out to Poleon on the right wing.
The experienced striker slid a pass across Huke in space on the edge of the box, and he fired a low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Ten minutes from time, Spencer Day's side should have added a fifth, but Bloomfield sent a free header wide from Harry Clout's inviting cross.
This miss proved costly for Farnborough, with Chelmsford scoring a consolation goal from the penalty spot two minutes later after Turner had brought down Kudiabor.
The experienced Taylor stepped up, and the 35-year-old coolly converted from 12 yards, sending Turner the wrong way.
Farnborough continued their search for a fifth goal, with Haigh producing an impressive save from point-blank range to deny Clout after he had been picked out in the box by Luciano D'Auria-Henry.
The Yellows would eventually find a fifth goal in injury time with Bloomfield, who had started the scoring, bagging his second goal of the night.
After Harris won back the ball in midfield, Boro broke quickly with Poleon who teed up Bloomfield to lash a strike past Haigh and into the corner of the net from the edge of the box
