MATCH REPORT: AVELEY 1-1 CHESHAM UNITED

Aveley 1

Chesham United 1

Aveley are now winless in eight games after surrendering a half time lead to draw with Chesham United.

The second from bottom Millers started brightly at Parkside and got their reward on 20 minutes, with Tyrese Owen unleashing an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

However, Danny Scopes' side were unable to hold on for a first win since November with Matt Lench equalising from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half.

Kick-Off

Aveley started on the front foot with Owen pulling the strings in midfield.

On five minutes skipper Jason Ring poked a loose ball to the 25-year-old whose shot from 20 yards was saved down low by Dillon Addai.

Owen was not to be denied however, and on 20 minutes he broke the deadlock with an impressive strike.

A Razzaq Coleman De-Graft cross deflected kindly into the path of the former Worthing man, and he lashed the ball into the top corner from just outside the area.

The rest of the half was quiet in South Essex, but in first half injury time the woodwork denied the visitors of an equaliser.

A right wing cross from Avan Jones was laid back to T'Sharne Gallimore by Alex Lafleur and the former's shot from the edge of the box crashed back off the crossbar.

Half Time: Aveley 1-0 Chesham United

The Generals had been poor in the first half but within three minutes of the restart found themselves back on level terms.

The ball was chipped into Brad Clayton and, in an attempt to try and clear the danger, Harry Beadle kicked through the Chesham winger causing the referee to point to the spot.

Lench stepped up and sent James Holden the wrong way from the spot for his first goal for the Generals since returning to the club from Slough Town last month.

Just past the hour mark there was a scare for Aveley when Holden spilt an effort from Jones, but he recovered well to gather the loose ball at the feet of Clayton.

As full time approached Aveley had the better chances to find a winner.

With 15 minutes remaining Owen pinged a long ball forward for David Kawa to latch onto, he broke into the box but fired his shot across the face of goal and wide.

Three minutes from time debutant Jaxon Brown cut inside from the left wing and curled a shot goalwards which Addai claimed, and a minute later the Chesham 'keeper had to tip over a Josh Anifowose attempt at his near post as the game fizzled out to a draw.

Full Time: Aveley 1-1 Chesham United

A third 1-1 draw in four home games for Aveley sees them remain 23rd in the Vanarama National League South standings having won just one of their last ten matches. The Millers are nine points from safety.

As for Chesham they are now three games unbeaten, enough to move them up three places and into the top half of the table. However, the Generals have now only won one of their past nine games in all competitions, and are winless away from home since October.
