MATCH REPORT: HASHTAG UNITED 2-4 HORNCHURCH

Hashtag United 2

Hornchurch 4

Hornchurch progressed through to the semi-finals of the BBC Essex Senior Cup with a 4-2 win away at Hashtag United.

The National League South side opened the scoring in the opening 15 minutes with Darren McQueen's second goal of the campaign.

Despite playing their football a division later than the Urchins, Hashtag equalised through former Jamaica international Nathan Smith before the visitors retook the lead just before half time thanks to Emmanuel Harvest.

Hashtag again equalised through Mert Apat, but a Charlee Adams penalty and an Angelo Balanta header secured Hornchurch's place in the final four of the competition.

Kick-Off

It didn't take long for Hornchurch to make their step two superiority show with McQueen opening the scoring after only 11 minutes.

Sean Scannell did well to get around Harrison Day and he dinked in a cross that was only headed away by Smith as far as McQueen who fired the ball past a wrongfooted Jack Giddens from 10 yards out.

Hashtag responded four minutes later when Luke May-Parrott went close, dragging his shot on the turn wide from 18 yards out.

Jay Devereux's side were not to be denied and on 24 minutes they found an equaliser.

Hornchurch failed to clear their lines with the ball getting stuck under Nathan Bertram-Cooper's foot when he attempted to clear the danger, causing it to roll into the path of Smith who swept the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The hosts kept the pressure up and eight minutes later Mason Terry had to pull off a fine diving save to tip over a curled Sak Hassan attempt that was destined for the top corner.

This save proved crucial for the Urchins who regained their lead four minutes later.

Harvest battled his way past two Hashtag defenders forcing the ball through to Ade Yusuff with his back to goal, he then laid play back to Harvest and the 20-year-old thumped the ball home.

Half Time: Hashtag United 1-2 Hornchurch

Hashtag came out to the second half strongly and four minutes after the restart they were back on level terms.

Hassan dragged a cross back to Smith and his first time shot stung the palms of Terry who tipped over.

The resulting corner from Misha Djemaili was turned in at the near post by Apat for his first Hashtag goal since signing from Dartford.

Following this both teams had half chances with Day firing an effort over and Scannell seeing a shot smothered by Giddens, however just past the hour mark Hornchurch were presented with a clear-cut opportunity to make it 3-2.

A Bailey Clements cross picked out Millwall loanee Henry Hearn who was brought down by a sliding Apat challenge causing referee Matthew Rowling to point to the spot.

Former England C international Adams took responsibility from the spot and, despite Giddens guessing the right way, he was able to convert from 12 yards.

15 minutes from time Daryl McMahon's men confirmed their place in the final four of the competition.

Scannell whipped in a cross that was converted by a glancing header from Balanta into the far corner.

This being the Colombian's second goal of the season, both of which have come against Hashtag having scored in the Urchins' 3-0 win against the Tags in the FA Cup in September.

Hashtag did threaten a late consolation with Terry having to make an impressive save with his legs to keep out a downward header from substitute Joshua Osude.
