MATCH REPORT: BRENTWOOD TOWN 1-1 EAST THURROCK UNITED

Brentwood Town 1

East Thurrock United 1

Brentwood Town made it four games unbeaten as a Jack Adlington strike cancelled out Brian Moses' 13th goal of the season to ensure a 1-1 draw with East Thurrock United.

It was a lively start at the Brentwood Arena with both goalkeepers being called into action early on.

After seven minutes a loose pass from Brentwood's Jack Humphrey gifted possession to Harry Critchley. The young full back capitalised on this by finding teammate Johnny Ashman whose long range effort stung the palms of Melvin Minter.

The hosts responded five minutes later with a chance of their own. Solomon Ogunwomoju and Adlington played a neat one-two on the right hand side before the latter delivered a cross that evaded everyone. However Ross Wall was able to keep it alive by redelivering to Andy Freeman whose fierce drive was turned onto the post and behind by Anthony Page.

From the resulting corner an Adlington delivery was flicked over at the near post by Wall.

Brentwood were left to rue this missed opportunity as six minutes later East Thurrock took the lead. Top scorer Moses did brilliantly to battle his way through a number of Brentwood challenges before the 6ft 7in striker lashed the ball into the far corner to hand the Rocks the lead.

Nine minutes later Marc Harrison's side went close to doubling their lead with Moses continuing to be a thorn in the Brentwood side. The Blues failed to clear a Harry Hope corner and the ball sat up nicely for Jack McQueen, the defender saw his volley blocked and the loose ball broke for Moses. The 26 year old hit a half volley that Minter had to beat away.

Despite the visitors having the lionshare of chances in the first period the two sides would go in at the break on level terms. With nine minutes left of the opening 45, the Blues equalised through Adlington. The former Heybridge Swifts man linked up well with Ogunwomoju once again with the latter sliding the former in behind and Adlington kept his cool by firing a strike that went off the underside of the crossbar and in. This goal was Adlington's third in five games.

The second half saw momentum fizzle out of the game as both sides scrapped for possession. The Rocks had more chances to win the game with Concord Rangers loanee Alex Hernandez forcing his former Beach Boys teammate Minter into a save, as well as Brentwood's James Folkes having to make a last ditch tackle to deny Moses a simple tap-in.

As the game ticked into injury time Minter made his most impressive save of the game. Hernandez delivered a cross to the far post that was met with a diving header by Ashman. However the former West Ham United youth player saw his attempt denied by a fine reaction save by Minter.

A point apiece means both sides stay in the same positions in the table with Brentwood in 11th and East Thurrock four points ahead of them in 10th.

A draw for the Blues means they are now winless in three games on home soil.

A share of the spoils for East Thurrock means the Rocks are now three games unbeaten in the Isthmian League North Division. Although despite this they have only picked up one win in nine games.
