Coggeshall Town's winless start to the season continued as the Seed Growers held high flying Heybridge Swifts to a goalless draw.
The first half was dominated by the visitors who created a flurry of opportunities without really testing Coggeshall's Tom Middlehurst.
After just five minutes a loose header from home captain Pat Ahern gifted play to Callum Taylor who rifled his effort into the side netting.
20 minutes later Middlehurst was called into action for the first time. A lobbed pass from Rhys Henry was flicked on by Sam Carter, releasing Southend United loanee Louie Arrowsmith in behind. However the 19 year old was only able to fire an attempt straight at the 20 year old shot stopper.
Heybridge kept up the pressure and again went close just past the half hour mark. A Rob Harvey cross had to be punched clear by Middlehurst, but the former Maldon & Tiptree man could only clear as far as Henry who fired wide of an unguarded net.
The hosts rarely threatened in the first period apart from some off target attempts from Nathan Fuma, however they started the second half a transformed side calling Callum Chafer into early action. On 49 minutes Rowan Dorling nodded a Ben Search free kick goalwards that forced Chafer to scramble across his goal line in order to save.
On the hour mark the 25 year old was again called into action this time by Josh Osude. Mitchell May poked the ball in behind for one time Grays Athletic winger whose effort was saved by the onrushing Chafer and former Coggeshall defender Tyler Brampton was on hand to clear away the loose ball ensuring a share of the spoils in North Essex.
A draw means Coggeshall remain bottom and are now 23 league games without a win. The Seed Growers haven't won in the league since April 2022.
A point for Heybridge sees Steve Tilson's men slip down a place to fourth in the table. The Swifts are now three games unbeaten however they have only recorded two wins in their past nine games.
