MATCH REPORT: CANVEY ISLAND 0-1 CONCORD RANGERS

 Pre-season Friendly

Park Lane

Saturday 9th July

Canvey Island 0

Concord Rangers 1

Concord Rangers’ pre-season got off to a win with a late Jack Thompson goal enough to sink local rivals Canvey Island.

The first half was a relatively quiet one at Park Lane, however both sides did hit the crossbar early on.

The hosts were first to be denied by the upright. A Reiss Chandler cross from the right was met by Bradley Sach, whose looping header came back off the bar.

Seven minutes later it was Concord’s turn. James Blanchfield’s floated cross was met by Alex Hernandez, with the youngster’s header clipping the crossbar.

The second half lacked any real clear-cut chances with two trialists going within a whisker of giving the Beach Boys the lead. But at the death the visitors would get their goal. Nana Kyei’s low cross from the left picked out Thompson who drove a powerful effort into the bottom corner to hand Chris Search’s men the win.

A win for Concord sees them get revenge on a Canvey side that beat them 3-2 last summer. This was also their first clean sheet in six off the back of last season.

For recently promoted Canvey their six-game unbeaten run comes to an end and they are now six without a clean sheet.
