MATCH REPORT: SOUTHEND UNITED 0-1 YEOVIL TOWN

Ten-man Southend United lost for the fifth time in six home games with a narrow 1-0 loss to Yeovil Town.

The Shrimpers were reduced to ten men in the first half when goalkeeper Zach Jeacock was dismissed for handling the ball outside of his area, and Yeovil made the man advantage count with a James Plant cross looping over Collin Andeng-Ndi and in.

There were two changes to the lineup from Blues' FA Cup defeat against Charlton Athletic with Zach Jeacock returning in goal and Josh Walker coming in for Macauley Bonne.

Kick-Off

It was an uneventful start at Roots Hall.

On 17 minutes Bim Pepple did well to hold off his man and get a shot off on the turn that deflected wide.

However, just before the half hour mark the game tilted in Yeovil's favour with Southend reduced to ten men.

A long ball over the top was latched onto by Pedro Borges, Shrimpers goalkeeper Jeacock rushed out of his area to close the Exeter loanee down but handled the ball and was consequently sent off.

This led to Collin Andeng-Ndi having to be brought on in place of striker Josh Walker.

This wouldn't prove to be the only sending off of the first half with Shrimpers Head Coach Kevin Maher also receiving a red card in stoppage time following his complaints when the Shrimpers were controversially not awarded a corner after Pepple went down under pressure from Ollie Wright.

Despite this, the two sides went in level at the break with the scoreline goalless.

Half Time: Southend United 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil came out to the second half looking to make the man advantage count.

Six minutes after the restart Frank Nouble laid the ball back to Kofi Shaw whose shot from 20 yards took a deflection on its way towards goal, but was still comfortably saved down low by Andeng-Ndi.

However, just past the hour mark Andeng-Ndi was helpless in preventing the Glovers from taking the lead.

Port Vale loanee Plant cut inside from the left hand side and whipped in a cross that looped over Andeng-Ndi and into the far corner.

Three minutes from time the Glovers threatened a second goal.

Dylan Morgan slid in Nouble in behind and the former Southend striker fired a shot across goal towards the far corner which Andeng-Ndi had to get down to and parry away.

Southend were unable to really threaten a late equaliser allowing the visitors to see the game out and record a fourth successive clean sheet on their travels.
