MATCH REPORT: CONCORD RANGERS 1-1 WORTHING

Concord Rangers 1

Worthing 1

Concord Rangers’ six game losing run came to an end as a second half strike from D’Sean Theobalds earnt the Beach Boys a respectable 1-1 draw at home to high flying Worthing.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to have the ball in the back of Melvin Minter’s goal when Ollie Pearce tapped home from close range, however the offside flag came to Concord’s rescue ruling the goal out.

However, Pearce was not to be denied a goal as nine minutes later the 27-year-old did get his fifth goal of the season. A low Moe Shubbar cross from the right was met by Pearce who looped the ball over Minter and into the far corner.

Pearce continued to be a thorn in the side and just a few minutes later went oh-so close to doubling the Rebels’ lead. Cameron Tutt released former Beach Boy Lewis White down the left flank and the 23-year-old’s low cross found an unmarked Pearce, however the Mackerel Mens’ top scorer somehow struck the crossbar from a few yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Just like they did on Saturday against Eastbourne, Concord came out the second half a much-improved side and just before the hour mark Chris Search’s men found themselves back on level terms. Ryan Blackman found Theobalds in space just outside the area and the summer signing coolly curled a composed finish into the bottom corner; for his first goal back in Concord colours.

With fifteen minutes left on the clock the woodwork again came to Concord’s rescue. Joel Colbran delivered a low cross to the back post, Javaun Splatt went sliding in to try and get the all-important touch but saw his effort come back off the post.

Deep into injury time there was another scare for the Beach Boys. A miscontrol from Cambridge loanee Harvey Beckett gifted the ball towards Pearce who drilling a rasping effort towards goal, but fortunately for Concord Minter was able to get down well and turn behind with his legs.

A point for the Beach Boys ensures they stay out of the relegation zone, but they are now eight games without a win. On the plus side Theobalds’ strike keeps up Concord’s record of scoring in every home game this season.

For Worthing a draw means they slip to fourth but their unbeaten start to the season goes on.

Chris Search’s side are next in action on the 8th of October with a tricky trip to another unbeaten side: second in the league Havant and Waterlooville.
