Concord Rangers return to action on Monday with a short trip to the Melbourne Community Stadium to take on local rivals Chelmsford City.

The Beach Boys will be eyeing up their first win in three as well as a first away win since opening day; however, this may prove tricky as Concord are winless in three against the Clarets and haven't won away at Chelmsford since 2014.

Meanwhile Chelmsford have started the season impressively well with Robbie Simpson’s men currently unbeaten – winning three and drawing two.

Key Player

Now 35 years of age the Jamaican born former Canadian international brings a vast amount of EFL and Premier League experience to Chelmsford.

Jackson was the Clarets’ top scorer last season bagging 11 goals, and the experienced forward has started this season similarly netting three times this term (including a brace at Welling on Saturday).

After starting his career at Rushden & Diamonds, Jackson moved to Gillingham in 2008 where he made over 100 appearances, as well as scoring a playoff final winning goal to earn the Gills promotion to League One.

Jackson would leave Gillingham for then Championship side Norwich City, and two years after his playoff final heroics, Jackson netted the goal that promoted Norwich to the Premier League in a win over Portsmouth.

After two seasons of Premier League football with the Canaries, Jackson left Carrow Road in 2013 and has since played for a host of clubs including: Coventry City, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Walsall, Grimsby Town, St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Stevenage, before joining Chelmsford February 2021.

They’ve played for both

Tosan Popo

Current Concord defender Tosan Popo previously appeared for Chelmsford at the beginning of his career during a loan spell from Charlton Athletic.

The 29-year-old made a handful of appearances during his stint in North Essex.

Following his loan spell with the Clarets, Popo has gone on to have three spells with the Beach Boys; in 2012, 2018/19 and from 2020 to present.

Nana Kyei

Silky winger Nana Kyei re-joined Concord in February from Hungerford, and enjoyed a fine return to the Aspect Arena.

The 24-year-old netted seven times for the Beach Boys, including an impressive hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Bath City.

Kyei previously had a short spell with Chelmsford between December 2019 and February 2020, during which time he scored one goal.

Louis Dunne

Chelmsford midfielder, Louis Dunne joined City in April 2021 from Farnborough.

The former Ireland youth international had a loan spell with Concord at the start of his career in 2017, joining from Colchester United.

During the meeting between Chelmsford and Concord at the end of last season, the 23-year-old saw himself sent off during a 1-1 draw.
