Preston North End claimed the local bragging rights with a Cameron Archer goal enough to sink Blackpool, as Ryan Lowe’s men picked up their first win in three games.

The hosts started the brighter and went close to taking the lead just before the half hour mark. An in-swinging Ben Whiteman corner from the left was met by Andrew Hughes, with the 29-year-old’s header rattling the crossbar.

Ten minutes later and once again The Lilywhite were denied by the woodwork. Former Blackpool midfielder Brad Potts saw his deflected cross come back off the upright. The ball then fell perfectly to Alan Browne from close range, but the Irishman lost his footing and the chance faded for Preston.

It was North End that would go in at half time 1-0 up however. Two minutes into the 11 of stoppage time Aston Villa loanee Cameron Archer struck to hand The Lilywhites the lead. A quick counter attack saw Emil Riis Jakobsen feed Archer who fired a low left footed drive into the far corner from just outside the area- the first goal Preston had scored in three games. This strike was the youngster’s sixth of the season; one that he gleefully celebrated in front of the visiting Blackpool supporters.

This goal from Archer was enough to separate the two sides, giving The Lilywhites only their second home win in 2022, a win for Preston sees them move up two places to 13th ; whilst also picking up their 13th clean sheet of the season.

Meanwhile for Blackpool, now 16th in the Championship, this was their first away game they’d failed to score in, in their last seven fixtures away from home in all competitions. Also, this was the first time The Tangerines have lost back-to-back league games since December following their 1-4 thrashing at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
